Hydro opens HyForge casting plant for low-carbon aluminium.
In September, Hydro celebrated the grand opening of the new Hyforge casting line at the recycling site in Rackwitz. The Hyforge technology allows high-quality components for the automotive industry and other customers to be produced directly without further intermediate steps such as extrusion or homogenisation.
Together with our partner HPI – High Performance Industrietechnik – promeos® supplied the highly efficient tundish preheating system for the Hyforge casting plant. By using the flame-free promeos® gas burner technology, promeos meets the high demands of the end customer Hydro: Within the framework of its sustainability strategy, the best possible efficiency and minimum emissions of all process steps with optimum quality and process control at the same time are of outstanding importance:
The promeos® Tundish preheater enables precise temperature control of the casting trough. This increases the process reliability at the start of casting and no undesired overheating of the melt is necessary. The high uniformity of the preheating protects the refractory material, which has a positive effect on the service life (prevention of stress cracks).
